Not so long ago, the VLE/LMS could do no wrong. Now, it seems that no-one has a good word to say about them, and PLEs are the future:

An educational technology dead end? Sakai may be open source, but it's not free by a long shot (those salaries add up)

Networks, Not Tools: It’s different now, somehow, than it was a year ago. It’s more immersive.

  1. A really thought-provoking vision of the way forward. I think it needs everyone in a Dept to show commitment to a model of this type simultaneously if it's truly going to happen - but is that achievable?

  2. Maybe not everyone. I think it needs the students to believe that we believe in it, then the rest will follow.

  3. Thanks for this post. I am just starting to get my head around what a PLE is now and your simple explanation was very helpful. Cheers and Happy Christmas.
