I'm inclined to respond 'Faking what?', because in my view that (very unsurprising) phenomenon is more a reflection of the very dubious nature of the whole process.
I'd love to see some figures on what proportion of university educators think the NSS data is valid for a sensible national comparison of teaching performance. Perhaps there're some about somewhere although I've not seen any.
